This is probably the only special tool which is indispensable for overhauling Stromberg carburettors. The table below lists the Stromberg carburettors made by Stromberg Australia for local vehicles. Serious headwork, valve train, exhaust and the accompanying bottom end to stop it all grenading is required to run the big brother single Stromberg carburettor. The slower air speed also means that the fuel delivered is not atomized as well as a single carburettor.
Incorrect size, corroded or obstructed. Open and close the throttle several times then recheck the lift dimension. The pump check valve assembly closes to stop fuel flowing backwards into the float bowl.
- The inner and outer holes in the pump lever provide too great a variance in the pump stroke and must result in reduced performance and economy.
- The air valve opens progressively in response to engine speed and throttle opening, gradually allowing more air to flow through the secondary side of the carburetor.
- Replace with the correct type idle tube.
- The metering orifice in the two types of jet are different, and produce different flow characteristics e.
- Setups are often made such that the middle carburettor in triple configurations is the light-load carburettor, with the two outer carburettors coming on line under load.
Bendix-Stromberg produced a number of pressure carburetor styles and sizes, each of which could be calibrated to a specific engine and airframe. Bendix used a special method to identify round carburetor bores. Stromberg carburettors were made by both Zenith and Bendix independently of each other, and are two very different pieces of equipment. However, most of these linkages assume the carburettors have aligned throttle shafts Stromberg B-Model manifolds normally have the throttle shafts between the carburettors.
In this manner, the amount of fuel delivered is tailored to the transient demands of the engine. The resulting reduction of flow unbalances the fuel metering diaphragm, causing the fuel metering valve to change position, thereby reducing fuel flow to the auto lean flow setting. With the throttle plate pretty much closed, almost all the vacuum created by the pistons moving downward manifold vacuum is concentrated on the lower idle discharge hole under the throttle valve.
All the linkage from in the engine bay should now fall out. The Fuelmiser accelerator pump system lost motion prevention spring adds some tension to the accelerator pump system, taking out some of the slack from the worn parts. Open the throttle fully and again check and record the distance. There are different stoichiometric ratios for other types of fuel. To prevent this, the main discharge jet has a series of internal air holes.
To do this you would have to set up an electric fuel pump use a pressure regulator to keep within specified pressure range to supply gas to the carburetor. This type has to be levered off with a screwdriver - take care not to scratch the carburettor body. Power bypass jets are stamped with the jet size in drill number e.
Identification of Zeniths other than above is difficult. The cable then passes across the engine bay to the carburettor throttle linkage. Rocket Industies are able to ship in the other sizes in a weeks delivery time. When the mixture control lever is moved from the idle-cutoff position, fuel starts to flow through the metering jets and into chamber D where it becomes metered fuel.
Float chamber vent vents float chamber to atmosphere to keep mixtures set even if air cleaner fouls. Replace the worn parts, or fit a Fuelmiser Lost Motion Spring. This can result in a delayed accelerator pump plunger movement when you accelerate, giving some lag or sluggish feeling. This carb was combined with the dual intake manifold so that each venturi fed half the cylinders of the engine. When fuel is vaporized, it cools the surrounding air due to the refrigeration effect as the fuel absorbs heat when it changes state from a liquid to a gas.

There is also very rarely any useful reference to real-world devices. Also, Schebler made replacement carburetors in the same models as original equipment carburetors. The diaphragm is connected to the needle valve and as it moves inward it opens the needle valve to admit more fuel, thus replenishing the fuel as it is consumed.

Note that there is a Bakelite spacer under the carburettor. Some carburetors in this group are worth the absolute identification. Automobile emissions control Catalytic converter Diesel particulate filter Exhaust manifold Glasspack Muffler.
Place some rag in the inlet manifold to stop rubbish dropping in, then clean the manifold face. This is when too much fuel and not enough air are present to support combustion. The inverse is also true when the aircraft is in inverted flight. This would mean that as engine speed increased, the mixture would get overly rich at cruise conditions. Although you can sometimes drill and retap the manifolds to change the bolt spacing, it is a lot easier to choose the right carburettors to suit the manifold.

The accelerator pump can also be used to prime the engine with fuel prior to a cold start. This is simply a spring-loaded rod that, when depressed, manually pushes the float down and allows excess fuel to fill the float bowl and flood the intake tract. At idle, the accelerator pump stem rises upwards, and opens the valve. Clean the Bakelite spacer. There are however, either one or two small floats in the fuel regulator air bleed system.
How to overhaul a Stromberg carburettor
Float maintains the fuel in the float chamber at a set level. Sometimes one or more additional booster venturis are placed coaxially within the primary venturi to increase the effect. To do so, frauen motorradtreffen start the engine and leave it idling with the air cleaner in place. The triangular tags were located under one of the screws holding the air horn to the bowl.
Note that the Stromberg Carburetor Ltd jets are at the small lean end of the scale, and are more likely to be useful to those running twin or triple carburettors than those running singles. Two barrel and four barrel configurations are commonly used to accommodate the higher air flow rate with large engine displacement. The primaries in such a carburetor are quite small relative to conventional four-barrel practice, single tanzkurs stade while the secondaries are quite large. Note also that the O or U letters will change the above throttle barrel diameters away from standard. Give the outside of the carburettor assembly a clean with some kerosene on a rag to get rid of the worst of the oil and dirt prior to disassembly.
THE CARBURETOR SHOP / Carburetor Identification
Adjust to the correct setting. Typically used on small engines, notably motorcycles, enrichment works by opening a secondary fuel circuit below the throttle valves. Unscrew the damper from the top of the piston chamber - commonly called the dashpot. The washer is then locked into position with a locknut.
For example, the original Fordson tractor and various subsequent Fordson models had vaporizers. Engine stumbles then begins accelerating. Many motorcycles still use carburetors for simplicity's sake, since a carburetor does not require an electrical system to function. Fit the bent brass washer to the vacuum power piston shaft and bend it back into shape, flirten taking care that the washer cut closes. Poorly referenced material on the topic should be viewed with suspicion.
Ensure that the vehicle main metering jets are reasonably sized and not the cause of the overrichness at cruise. Too high a level and the needle and seat is forced open, flooding the engine. The pictures above show the Wclip linkage in both twin and triple carburettor format. High fuel pressure can account for high fuel levels, so the fuel pressure should be checked to make sure it is not excessive for any speed. Replace the copper washers if leaks persist.
- Power bypass jet meters the fuel that is delivered by the power system during high speed or heavy load operation.
- Mount the cable guide using nuts, bolts and spring washers, with some sealant under the cable guide to prevent water ingress to the cabin.
- Beginning in the late s, downdraft carburetors were the most popular type for automotive use in the United States.
- Frequently, feedback carburetors were used in lower trim versions of a car whereas higher specification versions were equipped with fuel injection.
- Leave the rod hanging from the rest of the throttle linkage assembly.

Rebush the worn bearing areas. Two or three separate carburettor arms one for each carburettor are clamped to the throttle rod and connected to each carburettor throttle lever by ball joint assemblies. Check that the carburettor throttle valve is fully open without compressing the throttle over-travel spring.
